The World in Cinema

Late News

Our last screening was held on Sat 18 April 26 where we showed two films.

The first film was a short called Transfer of Power. This film from the AIATSIS collection gave a great insight

into a small indigenous community group working together to solve a problem with a motor vehicle on a remote

north-western NSW cattle station. Patrons gave this enjoyable film an average rating of 4.1 out of 5 stars.

The second film The Teacher Who Promised the Sea was a fantastic, moving, emotion-charged film relating to the

Spanish civil war of 1936-1939. Combined with some excellent cinematography, many found it a beautiful but tragic

film depicting the best and  worst of humanity. Patrons gave this one an average rating of 4.7 out of 5 stars.

Our next screening is on Sat 16 May 2026.

This screening is a double feature and represents a tribute to two fine actors,

following the passing of Robert Redford and Diane Keaton last year.

The first film is the classic outlaw western Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, starring Robert Redford

and Paul Newman. This film won multiple Academy Awards in 1970. The Oscar-winning cinematography and

writing and the memorable score receive widespread acclaim, cementing its place in history.

The second film is Woody Allen's romantic comedy Annie Hall, starring Diane Keaton and Woody Allen.

This film was also highly awarded, receiving multiple Academy Awards in 1978. Not only did Diane Keaton and Woody Allen

receive Oscars for best actress and best actor, but the film was also awarded for best film, best director and best writing.

Further details of both of these films can be found under the Program tab on the main menu above,

Looking forward to another great rollup on Sat 16 May 2026.
